Dreams and Reality

Confucius says, "If you enjoy what you do, you will never work another day in your life".

Back in 2011, I posted this well-known poem about taking the road less travelled. During the same period I also posted quotes from the 'Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho.
He's right - It's now 2013 and I don't think I'll ever be able to keep it quiet...

From the 'Alchemist' by Paulo Coelho:
- "My heart is a traitor," the boy said to the alchemist, when they had paused to rest the horses. "It doesn't want me to go on."
"That makes sense," the alchemist answered. "Naturally it's afraid that, in pursuing your dream, you might lose everything you've won."
"Well, then, why should I listen to my heart?"
"Because you will never again be able to keep it quiet. Even if you pretend not to have heard what it tells you, it will always be there inside you, repeating to you what you're thinking about life and about the world.

"You mean I should listen, even if it's treasonous?
"Treason is a blow that comes unexpectedly. If you know your heart well, it will never be able to do that to you. Because you'll know its dreams and wishes, and will know how to deal with them. You will never be able to escape from your heart. So it's better to listen to what it has to say. That way, you'll never have to fear an unanticipated blow."

- "My heart is afraid that it will have to suffer," the boy told the alchemist one night as they looked up at the moonless sky.
"Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than the suffering itself. And that no heart has ever suffered when it goes in search of its dreams, because every second of the search is a second's encounter with God and with eternity"

- "When I have been truly searching for my treasure, every day has been luminous, because I've known that every hour was a part of the dream I would find it. When I have been truly searching for my treasure, I've discovered things along the way that I never would have seen had I not had the courage to try things that seemed impossible for a shepherd to achieve."
- "Because I don't live in either my past or my future. I'm interested only in the present. If you can concentrate always on the present, you'll be a happy man. You'll see that there is life in the desert, that there are stars in the heavens, and that tribesmen fight because they are part of the human race. Life will be a party for you, a grand festival, because life is the moment we're living right now."
- "There is only one thing that makes a dream impossible to achieve: the fear of failure"

Travelling alone - Melbourne airport lounge

 airport lounge melbourne travel

It's always nice to getaway from the daily grind.  I've never travelled alone before. Maybe a short trip along the coast by myself will be the first baby step.

At the Grounds of Alexandria in Sydney. We often come here for brunch.
You can read a review of the cafe here.

On another note, I'm going to write in Japanese on this blog as well, purely to keep up with it. It'd be a waste to forget everything after studying the language for 3-4 years. I may ask a Japanese friend to correct any mistakes.

これからこのブログで日本語の練習のために日本語でも書きます。間違ったら直してください。
お願いいたします!

Brunch at Armory Wharf Cafe (as mentioned in my previous post below) at Blaxland Riverside Park. Wish I took more photos of the modern exterior of the cafe. I think I another visit is due soon. It's only a 15 minute drive from my place.

I took these photos at Blaxland Riverside Park after we had brunch at the Armory Wharf Cafe.
I must say, it's a pretty neat area tucked away in Sydney Olympic Park! I was so tempted to join the kids on the flying fox and swings but I refrained. It sucks being an adult. Though, I did go on the slippery dip as shown in the first photo. I want to go again. Maybe when the park is empty and the kids are at school.

2013

"But the little things in life, the minute moments...not taken for granted, the value of
their treasure is substantial all the more." - Samuel Sumner

A fresh new blog.
I began blogging in 2008 when I received my first DSLR (a Nikon D40) for my 21st where for a good 2-3 years I kept it private and used it as a means to experiment with photography and collate my images, like a visual journal.
When I was in Japan in 2010, I shared it with close friends and family to update them on my life overseas, aptly naming the blog 'Life in Yoko[hama]'. Since arriving back in Sydney, it was renamed 'Found Pieces' and shared on instagram and facebook.
For 2013, I decided to give the blog a new face-lift with a new URL and title, which I plan to stick with.

I want to blog more often for one simple reason: it's fun. I enjoy taking photos. I also enjoy looking at photos. I plan to write more and let this be a space where I can put my thoughts down, share things that interest me and record memories made. Having this blog allows me to see how much I have changed and grown over the years.
I realised when I'm feeling down or going through something difficult I become consumed by it and, as a result, neglect not only this blog but other areas in my life. I tend to retreat and come out when the storm has passed. But I hope this blog will allow me to get up and dance in the rain for it is the minute moments that can bring us unexpected joy and happiness. I suppose in summary this is what my blog is about - appreciating and capturing the minute moments in life, come rain or shine.

Welcome :)

Boats and buildings - Hobart, Tasmania Part 6/6

Last few pictures from Hobart, Tasmania.
All pictures were taken with my trusty Fujifilm Natura Classica (Natura 1600 film).

What a memorable 25th. Definitely a highlight of 2012.
I sure am one lucky girl :)

For more photos from Hobart, here are all the posts in 6 parts:

Farmers' Markets - Hobart, Tasmania Part 4

More photos from our Hobart trip in September 2012.
In addition to Salamanca markets, there are a few Farmers' markets around the city held on Sundays. We read about this particular one in a travel brochure from our hotel and decided to check it out. For anyone visiting Hobart, a trek to the local markets for Tassie's fresh produce is highly recommended!

A Melbourne New Years 2013

Instagram

For the second time in 2012, we decided to visit Melbourne again during the Xmas/NY break.

We visited our favourite cafes and alleyways but also discovered quirky shops and extravagant bookshops which we loved. During our stay, we explored other tourist spots around Melbourne we didn't get to visit last time such as Docklands, Chapel St and Brighton Beach.
Fireworks in Melbourne aren't quite as impressive as Sydney's but sitting along Yarra River to welcome 2013 with the special someone was memorable nonetheless :)

In a hotel room

This coming Friday I will be on a plane to Japan! It'll be first my time to go back since my exchange year at YNU. So excited!
I will be in Tokyo for 7 days and then 10 days in Seoul, South Korea! I've made a list of the places I want to visit and things I want to buy - one of which includes a.....

My trusty 35mm Fujifilm Natura Classica has been the go-to camera but there are moments when I wish a had a sturdy compact digital camera to take photos without worrying how much the rolls of film and developing will accumulate to (it can be quite pricey).
I've been eyeing the x100 since it was first released but couldn't afford it on a student budget. In that predicament I was also unable to use my film cameras as I knew the price of film and developing would eventually add up, so I relied on my iPhone 4 and instagram during that time.

Well, now with the release of the new and upgraded x100s, along with a full-time income, a trip to Japan and the strong Aussie dollar...how can I resist?! I've read numerous positive reviews and I am getting my hands on it as soon as I land in Japan! I will take lots and lots of photos and share them on Flickr and on this blog!! Yay :)
