London Markets: Maltby Street Market Ropewalk

Taking a break from posting my 2014 Europe trip photos on the blog, here are some snaps of Maltby Street Market. This inconspicuous market is not as well-known as Borough Market, attracting more locals than tourists, so if you want to avoid battling through crowds on a weekend, this is the place to go. There is a good selection of food stalls and antique shops open on Saturday and Sundays. I recommend going on a Saturday to try to the burger at African Volcano. It is heavenly.

Going to a market on a sunny weekend is one of my favourite things to do. Here are a few things I saw at Glebe Markets a few weeks ago. Cannot wait to check out all the awesome markets in London! I will make sure to share photos on this blog :)

Eveleigh Farmers' Markets

 

We finally visited Eveleigh Farmers' Market located in Redfern, Sydney, that's held every Saturday morning from 8am. Given our new found love for Farmer's Markets after our Tasmania trip, our expedition to Eveleigh Markets was a long time coming (okay, maybe it was my laziness and inability to wake up early on Saturday mornings).
I'm definitely going back to try all the other food stalls including Billy Kwong's savoury panckes, buy some fresh vegies and some interesting spreads. My ultimate favourite at the markets was Yalla's Chocolate Mousse. Oh, it was it devine! It wasn't too sweet (I don't have much of a sweet tooth) and the texture/consistency was perfect. I'll have to buy the bigger tub next time round!

Salamanca Markets - Hobart, Tasmania Part 2

      
      

It's all hip and happening in Hobart - it's listed as one of the Top 10 cities by Lonely Planet.
On our first day in Hobart, we went to Salamanca Markets, one of the largest markets in the Southern Hemisphere. As the article puts it:

Perhaps Hobart's most famous attraction is the Salamanca Markets, held every Saturday rain or shine since 1973. From Hmong migrants selling fresh vegetables to family fudge producers handing out samples of their wares, the outdoor market offers a real taste of Tasmania with a backdrop of historic sandstone warehouses dating back to the 1830s. The markets are at their best in spring and summer when local artisan producers come to town to sell everything from fresh fruit to handicrafts.

What we enjoyed most about Salamanca Market were the food and produce stalls as it offered the chance to try out Tassie's local produce - tempura mushrooms, anyone? We must have tried at least five different stalls but, you know, it's all justified because you just don't get markets like these back in Sydney.

 Okay, fine, that and we just like to eat a lot  :)
